History

The training for Local Council Clerks started as a part-time college course in Local Council Administration. This eventually developed into a degree course with the title’ Local Policy’. It is the only set of courses that a Clerk can undertake, which if s/he is paid to scale merits 4 increments for a Local Policy Degree.

When the 1997 group of Local Policy Graduates (28 of us) met together in 2008 the decision was to form an Association. We thought that a more formal structure would encourage us to continue to Network and hopefully not to lose touch with each other. This was particularly relevant to those not in the local council movement.

The Tutors were Laurie Howes and Elisabeth Skinner and Laurie is now enjoying retirement from the University.

Many ex-students continue to support the courses run by the University of Gloucester.
